Mais qu\u2019est-ce qui fera la popularit\u00e9 d\u2019un chemin? On parle ici de 15 \u00e0 120 millions de p\u00e8lerins sur certaines routes! Quels avantages a-t-on \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ou \u00e0 entretenir un tel parcours? Celui qui d\u00e9cide d\u2019aller marcher le chemin de Compostelle ne le fait plus forc\u00e9ment pour des motifs religieux. On retrouve bon nombre de p\u00e8lerins (55%) qui voyagent pour r\u00e9aliser une d\u00e9marche spirituelle ou personnelle, ou simplement pour le plaisir de vivre une exp\u00e9rience de vie. De ce fait, on constate ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es un engouement grandissant pour ce type d\u2019exp\u00e9rience. \u00c0 titre d\u2019exemple, sur le Camino Franc\u00e8s, en 1982, on d\u00e9cernait 120 compostelas; en 2005 : 94 000 compostelas; et les derni\u00e8res statistiques annon\u00e7aient en 2013 : 215 000 compostelas. Le Canada est le 9e pays en importance repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 sur les chemins de Santiago. Car contrairement aux voyageurs motoris\u00e9s, le marcheur s\u2019arr\u00eate dans chaque village et profite des services qu\u2019il y trouve, favorisant ainsi, dans une r\u00e9gion, l\u2019\u00e9panouissement et le d\u00e9veloppement de tous et de chacun. Le voyageur motoris\u00e9 aura tendance \u00e0 ne s\u2019arr\u00eater que dans les lieux plus touristiques et mieux desservis, se contentant de passer rapidement au travers des autres villages qui croisent sa route. Le p\u00e8lerin, plus lent, se d\u00e9placera sur de courtes distances faisant plus d\u2019arr\u00eats. Chaque village travers\u00e9 est une occasion de faire une pause, de casser la cro\u00fbte, de faire des provisions, de prendre du repos, de profiter du voyage. Ce qui signifie, qu\u2019il s\u2019arr\u00eatera dans plus d\u2019\u00e9piceries, de caf\u00e9s, de restaurants, d\u2019auberges, de gites, de motels, de boutiques ou d\u2019attraits touristiques. Je ne vous parle pas ici de partir avec un sac \u00e0 dos de 50 livres avec tout le mat\u00e9riel de survie pour marcher \u00e0 travers bois. Je parle de marcher de village en village, \u00e0 la rencontre de l\u2019autre, avec l\u2019essentiel sur le dos, sachant que la route m\u2019accompagnera dans ma d\u00e9marche. Marcher la Voie du Saint-Laurent, et terminer en traversant les villages de Gasp\u00e9sie, est une exp\u00e9rience indescriptible! Mais le chemin est encore jeune, et il ne prendra naissance qu\u2019avec la volont\u00e9 de chacun et la conviction que les p\u00e8lerins et les villageois font \u00e9quipe dans ce projet pour en retirer, chacun \u00e0 sa fa\u00e7on, les bienfaits et les avantages.
